Hunter-Gatherer & Agrarian Societies both have their perks and their advantages and disadvantages, but the one that rules over all is Agrarian Civilization.
"Civilized life is a safe life."(Riley).
What Kevin Riley is trying to say is that an advantage of living in an agrarian society is that you are much safer from attacks and any disasters that might occur than hunter-gatherers would have been. They can never be sure that they will always be safe, because some wild animal can come out of the woods and attack at anytime they want, and us we are protected by our safe homes.
"Civilized life gives the feeling of permanence. It offers regularity, stability, order, even routine."(Riley).
Know that we live in an agrarian society should give us comfort and a positive view of how we live today because, hunter-gatherers are always moving traveling with about 15-30 people, so they were stuck with the same people all their lives. Living in an Agrarian society will make us feel more civilized and knowing that we wont always have to be moving place after place gives us a sense of purpose and that we belong.
"Since hunting is unpredictable business...hunters sometimes experience a run of bad luck and stop hunting for a month maybe longer."(Lee).
In an agrarian society it would be easier to predict if there would be a bad season for crops to grow, but if we were hunter-gatherers we could not just go out into the wild and be for sure that we will come back with enough food or any food for ourselves and our family.
"Farming was the key. Wherever agriculture flourished, humans clustered together in denser and larger population, stockpiled resources, and developed complex infrastructures. Farming rapidly transformed almost every aspect of human society." (Christian)
Even though hunting and gathering was what basically made up farming, farming opened so many doors for mankind. With out becoming an Agrarian Civilization there wouldn't be any towns, cities, states and empires. We wouldn't have the life we live now probably no life at all.
